Visa on arrival

You do not need a pre-arrival visa to enter the Maldives!

A visa-on-arrival is issued to all Nationalities given that a list of conditions is fulfilled:

  • Be in posession of a passport or travel document valid for at least six months (at the date of arrival).
  • Provide proof of a valid travel ticket out of the Maldives.
  • Except you can provide a reservation in a resort or hotel declare your funds, which must meet a minimum of $150 USD per day per person.

Attention!
The thirty day visa period is no suspect to claims by the visitor/traveller. Any period of entry issued lies at the discretion of the department of immigration. Employment is prohibited under this visa category.

Sponsorship

Any foreigner may apply to enter the Maldives through the sponsorship program with the related form.
Entry is only permitted once the sponsorship is approved. It is within the responsibilities of the applicant to obtain information on the approval of the application.
Failing to do so may have the foreigner barred from entering the Maldives.
Sponsorship roles can be fulfilled by local individuals or registered companies.

Renewal of Tourist Visa

A tourist visa may be renewed if the application is made before expiration of the current visa. The assessment will be similar to the visa-on-arrival, whereas your funds, place of stay and possibly intents will decide over the success of aforementioned application.
A visa extension can only be granted in the head office of the department of immigration during business hours.
Extensions if granted can amount to a maximum of 90 days including the 30 days on visa-on-arrival. A visa fee of 750 Rufiyaa will be charged for a full extension of 60 days (30 days on arrival + 60 days extension = 90 days maximum tourist visa stay)
No fees will be charged if the extension and visa-on-arrival do not exceed 30 days when combined.
Foreigners who are found to have overstayed their visa may be deported.

Refusal of Entry

Entry to the Maldives may be refused by an immigration officer during the interviews of passengers if:

  • the officer has reasonable grounds (not necessarily solid proof) that the passengers travel documents are fraudulent
  • the officer suspects the apparent intention to the possible disruption of harmony and unlawful activities.
  • the questioned individual is found to have strong anti-semantic religious or political views.

Removal from Maldives

Any person staying in Maldives could be removed from Maldives immediately if the person concerned is :

  • Found working on a Tourist Visa
  • Found participating in any unlawful activity or even the intention to participate or initiate an unlawful activity
  • Suspected of disrupting the religious or political harmony
  • Reported to have become a public nuisance
  • Found with expired stay permit
  • Found with expired Work Permit

The removal could be translated as deportation from Maldives until such time, the Immigration seems fit.
